Choosing a Tool to Build Your Website

You've Done the Preliminaries

You've researched your keyword phrases and organized your content. You've determined the purpose of your website. You've determined the amount of interaction that you want to have with your visitors.

If you haven't, you're not ready to start building a website!!

The Right Tool

The right tool for your purpose will be determined by the amount of interaction you want with your visitors.

If you require a lot of interaction you should choose a CMS (Content Management System) or a blogging tool.

If you will require limited interaction your purpose can probably be served with simple conventional website building software.

Finding a Web Host

You should know that there are hundreds of web hosts out there that offer the same tool for creating your website. How do you pick the right one?

The most important criteria to consider when selecting your web host is the QUALITY of THEIR SUPPORT!

Search the so-called Web Host Rating sites and most of the complaints that you find about a web host will be about their technical support.

You need to find a web host that offers 24/7 technical support.
The perfect technical support would include: 24/7 Non-outsourced Help Desk, 24/7 Toll Free Tech Phone Line and a 24/7 Tech Chat Line.
Combine that with visual tutorials on all their products and you've got the perfect support system.

Problem is - It ain't Out There
Pick the support features that are most important to you and look for a web host that has them.
Then do a search on Google or with the host's name and the words tech support and look for forum entries.
2 or 3 negatives for a host servicing a few million customers isn't that critical. When all you see are negatives - BEWARE!!

You should consider when reading many negative reviews that they are usually posted by people that don't have a clue about what they are complaining about.

I've read complaint after complaint listed against a web host that didn't offer support for a third party tool, the user was constructing his site with. Few if any web hosts offer support for third party tools and they state it clearly in their support rules.
I've also read complaints that customers can't get through to their support desk or toll free line. I check the host and they don't claim to offer 24/7 support. Their support is 8-5 weekdays closed on weekends. Someone didn't do their homework.
On the other side of the coin, there wouldn't be a negative reviews if web hosts would solve problems in a timely manner.

You Can't Handle the Truth!!
Storage and Bandwidth

Remember the movie, A Few Good Men? Tom Cruise is questioning Jack on the witness stand and he screams, "I want the TRUTH". Jack fires back, "You can't handle the TRUTH!

I don't know what it is about people today when it relates to the TRUTH. People believe what they want and don't want their facts confused by the TRUTH. This is especially true of people choosing their first web host.

You've seen the numbers: 15000Gb(15TB), 17000Gb(17TB), 20000GB (20TB) and Unlimited bandwidth.

These numbers are nonsense and are nothing more than False Advertising for Shared Web Hosting.
If you even approach 1000GB (1TB) on a shared server, you will soon receive a message from your web host to cease and desist or move your website to a dedicated server.

2000GB of bandwidth on a dedicated server would cost $200 a month or more. So how can a shared web host give you these numbers? THINK!!! PEOPLE. You're sharing a server with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of other people.

Note: Read the Fine Print If there is a page limit, it doesn't matter how much storage space your web host offers. If you sign up for a builder that only allows 5 web pages, the amount of storage space is irrelevant. Be sure to read the fine print.

The number of visitors that your website can receive in a month is measured in bandwidth or data transfer.

For a small conventional website under 100 pages, not running streaming video, 10GB of bandwidth a month would be enough to support 5000 visitors a day.

If you find a web host with the big numbers that has your tool for the right price and solid 24/7 technical support, then you've found a winner.

And about that storage: All web hosts have a limit on the number of files you can store. 20- 40k is usually the limit. Storage capacity numbers mean nothing.

Shared web hosting is more about CPU usage. If you exceed your share of CPU usage, you can be banned.

Next So, what's the best tool for me?
