Geany

I finally found my HTML editor for Linux.

I had become so frustrated with the Bluefish editor and all its quirks that I dreaded just starting to work on web pages in the morning.

I did one more search on Bing for Free HTML editors for Linux.

There it was. Geany

Don't know what inspired me to, but I went straight to the Repository, typed in the name and there it was sitting there all this time.

Installed it. Process was really quick. Pulled up a web page. Line wrap was excellent (one of the Bluefish quirks), things were really looking good.

Next logical thing for shade tree developers, check the web page in a browser.

Poked around a little bit and finally found the little icon on the toolbar, hover text 'Run or View the Current File'. Clicked it.

Up popped a little dialog box asking for a command line.

Now in the Windows environment, you'd just look for a tab somewhere that said Configure Browser or Browser Setup.

Not so with the Linux guys. Their manuals are pure Gibberish if you aren't a tech minded savant. So, of course we go to the search engines.

A simple search. 'How to configure a browser on Geany.' nada 'How to set up a browser on Geany'. nada 'Command line for browser on Geany' and once again, nada.

Was just about to do the usual uninstall like I had with Atom and Net Beans.

Then I remembered seeing browser command lines on none other than Bluefish. Cranked up Bluefish, went to the dialog box for configuring browsers and copied the command line for the default browser: /usr/bin/x-www-browser '%p'&

Went back to Geany with page in editor window and clicked the icon, dialog box appeared entered the said command line and clicked OK.

Voila!!! Up popped Microsoft Edge and my web page.

I was so pleased that I began cranking out my review for the tool. You're reading it.

So far so GOOD! Keeping my fingers crossed when I'm not typing. Hope to add more positives after using it for a while.

Right now I highly recommend Linux users try it. It's in the Repository.
