Free HTML Editors for Windows and Linux

NoteTab Light

NoteTab Light is a very good free HTML editor.

It does not have the best text editing features, but makes a good first editor because it's easy to use.

Multiple page editing. Need to change an ad on 25 pages. One click changes them all. (Pages must all be open)

I used the Pro version for a while because of its superior search and replace features.

Move quickly around a stack of large files with a simple tabbed interface.

Format text to your heart's content.

Create text with the font of your choice, fixed-width or proportional.

If you need to cut and paste chunks from a pile of files, forget the Clipboard: you can set up a Paste Board file to save text clips automatically.

Strip HTML tags from your files.

Call up complete document statistics instantly.

Use powerful, system-wide search and replace tools.

NoteTab Light is our choice of FREE tools for beginner web authors that need a simple but powerful tool that works right out of the box.

Linux Users

Linux users will have to use Wine to run Notetab Light and HTML Kit-292.

I'm currently using Linux and I've found Bluefish to be more than adequate. Install it from the Software Manager. (Search: Bluefish) Oh, and it's FREE!
