What is it? What can you do with it? Is it worth $48/USD? What is it? Ready Made Joomla is a collection of Ready Made Joomla websites that install using the built in Joomla Installer. Special extensions or features are included in each installation package. For example, the community site includes the Fireboard message board set up and ready to go. The Business website installs with the Joomla Comments feature. The Shopping site installs with the Virtuemart shopping cart. The package also includes 500 templates and you can get an extra 100 if you visit the website and catch a floating ad. Also included in the download are over 500 extensions and components that can be used to add more features to your Joomla website. A complete set of audio/video tutorials, JoomlaMagic, is included that guide you through the process of creating a database, installing Joomla, configuring it and then show you how to perform the various functions involved in developing your website. Here's a Sample Lesson on Creating Categories. Also included, the JoomlaTemplateMaker tool.(Doesn't work on Vista) 3 E-books on the subject of internet marketing are thrown in for good measure.
First, you can take one of the 500 templates and update an existing Joomla website. This website has been updated using one of the templates. All we added was a logo. You could install one of the components included in the download on an existing website. We added Joomla Comments to this site from the package. You can install one of the Ready Made Websites and instantly have features like message boards set up for you. Overcome the problem of missing or lacking documentation. You can test all of the Ready Made Sites on the RMJ website. The Ready Made sites are: Business site Community site Information site Directory site Shopping site Personal site Hobby site I tested 2 of the installation packages and they both installed flawlessly. I built the Business Site and the Community Site
Is it worth $48/US? When you consider the fact that the video tutorial package, JoomlaMagic, is priced at $47, then $48 for the entire Ready Made Joomla package looks pretty good. I would have learned Joomla a lot faster if I had found these tutorials when I first learned about CMS and Joomla. I didn't realize how easy it is to build a store with Joomla before I watched the tutorials. You can get more information on the tutorials at joomlamagic.com or joomlamagic.net. The 6 Ready Made sites can save a lot of time if you are going to build one of these types of websites. One of the RMJ sites is a store with a shopping cart. You can find free Joomla templates all over the internet, but having 500 or 600 at your fingertips can also be a time saver. The same goes for the collection of components and extensions. Actually, most of the extensions included in the package are outdated versions and include no documentation for installation. The best way to get your extensions and components is to visit joomla.org, find what you want and then go to the author's website and find your documentation if it exists. One word about the tutorials. They are packaged in a 326mb zip file. You need a good high speed internet connection to download them. Not for dial up and iffy for satellite downloads. Do I Recommend RMJ? If you want to learn Joomla quickly, RMJ may be the best $48 you ever spend. Except for the tutorial on creating a database the JoomlaMagic tutorials are some of the best around. If you are a beginner website author and you like the features that Joomla offers, the RMJ sites are a good way to get the extra features without all the frustration! The 500 templates, extensions and template maker could be removed from the package and it would still be worth the price for Joomla beginners. Footnote: The author of RMJ offers a special deal on hosting in the package. I don't recommend Ipower for Joomla hosting. Look in our web links for web hosts that actually provide support for Joomla websites. Comments (1)
